Homemade Birthday Gifts

Some people like to give homemade gifts because it is their way, and other people prefer to give homemade gifts because they are short on money.  Whatever reason for giving homemade birthday gifts, they are appreciated by the recipient because it means you took the time to make something just for them.

From Your Kitchen

Who doesn’t like to eat, and appreciate something delicious from a loved one’s kitchen?  Do you have a reputation for making a signature dish from a closely guarded recipe?  Think about how much someone would appreciate you making them a batch, just for their birthday. Foods that make nice gifts are freshly baked breads, cakes, pies or cookies. Do you make good sauces, soups, jams or jellies and put them into jars? Put a bow on the lid of the jar and you have a nice gift.  Make sure you are giving something that they like, and that is compatible with their diet.

From Your Garden

If you have a garden there are many options for homemade gifts.  In the warm months you can always make a beautiful bouquet of flowers for someone’s birthday.  Tie the bouquet with a ribbon in their favorite color.  If you grow fruits or vegetables, give them a basket of produce you’ve grown yourself. Do you also grow herbs? You can give them fresh herbs from your garden, or you can dry them yourself and give them herbs in a jar.

From Your Craft Room

If you are a crafter there a no limits to what you can make for homemade birthday gifts. You can make something from your repertoire that they have admired, try making something new just because it is beautiful, or something that also has a useful purpose.

From Your Sewing Room

If you sew, make them an article of clothing that they would like to wear, or something for their home, like a new set of curtains.  If sewing is not your thing, homemade birthday gifts can be knitted or crocheted.

Are you Artistic?

If you have artistic talent you could paint, draw or sculpt something for your loved one. If you are musical you could write them a song, or give them a performance. If you like to write why not pen them a poem or write them a short story where they are the main character.

Your Shop or Work Room

Homemade birthday gifts can come from your shop or wood working room. Do they need something done around their home, or can you build them a bird house or a new mail box.

Free Work or Coupons

You can always give them a coupon book where you offer your free services.  Offer to cut the grass, wash the car, drive them somewhere, or clean something around the house. Find out if they need help with babysitting, pet sitting or dog walking and offer your services as a type of homemade birthday gift.

A homemade birthday gift can come from your kitchen, garden, work room, your artistic and crafting talent, or from your free services.
