Food: Make a batch of whatever you are famous for whipping up in the kitchen, and give it as a gift.  How you present the food can also be part of the gift. Serve breakfast in bed, or take them on a picnic.

 

Re-gifting: Think of regifting as a way to recycle duplicate, or gifts that don’t work for you. There is nothing wrong with re-gifting, if you believe the item will be appreciated by the recipient.  Do you get a lot of free samples or corporate gifts from work? If you can’t use them, regift them to somebody else. 

Your Time: It costs you nothing to give the gift of your time.  Offer to mow the lawn, babysit, organize the garage, walk the dog or wash their car. Find out what they need and see if you can work it into your schedule.

If you decide to buy a cheap birthday gift, try some of these tricks. 

Shop Sales: It seems obvious to shop sales, but try doing it all year round. That way you can buy cheap gifts before actually needing them. 

Online Shopping: Shop online for bargains, and don’t forget to find on-line coupons before you buy. Try typing in “online coupon codes” or “online discounts” to find them.  Also look for free shipping. 

Dollar Stores are Great: Don’t rule out dollar stores for birthday gifts. They are full of cute and useful items. 

Buy One Get One Free: Look for these types of sales. You can keep one for yourself,  use the other one as a gift, or use them both as gifts. 

Tickets to Events: Think of a play, concert, sporting event or exhibit that they would enjoy, and look for a good deal online.
