Baby Birthday Gifts

There are many options when it comes to selecting baby birthday gifts beyond just getting a stuffed toy.  You can help the parents by asking them what the baby needs, or help them to get ready for the toddler years.  You can make an ordinary gift special by having it personalized, or by buying the organic version.

Ask the Parents

Don’t be afraid to ask the parents if there is anything they have in mind for baby birthday gifts. They may already have too many rattles and stuffed toys, and appreciate you taking the time to ask. If you don’t feel comfortable asking the parents, ask their friends or family for suggestions, or find out if the parents have set up a registry with a baby or department store.

Get Ready for the Toddler Years!

Babies grow into toddlers quickly, and the things toddlers need are different from a baby.  Help the parents prepare for the toddler years by getting the baby cloths to grow into that are in toddler sizes.  You can also help the parents by giving toys suitable for toddlers. Use the following guidelines for choosing toddler toys.

Creativity Toys: paints, wide crayons and wide tip markers

Music and Dance: musical instruments and DVD’s of music geared to toddlers

Develop Finer Motor Skills: toys with buttons, switches, doors, gadgets

Sorting Toys: these are toys with shapes, blocks or animal figures for them to sort

Push and Pull Toys: toys the toddler can pull or push and lean upon to walk

Imaginative Play Toys: dolls, cars, dress-up

Personalized Gifts

A personalized gift is one that has the baby’s name and/or birth date embroidered, engraved or painted on it. Different types of gifts can be personalized for baby birthday gifts.

Clothing: An everyday piece of clothing such as a sleeper or play outfit becomes special when it has the baby’s name embroidered upon it.  Ask at baby clothing stores if they provide this service.

Keepsakes: Have a silver baby mug, picture frame or baby utensils engraved with the baby’s name and/or birth date to make it special.

Nursery Decorations: Place the baby’s name and birth date on things to decorate their nursery such as a door plate, a mirror, a lamp or a clock. Ask at baby stores if they provide this service.

Organic Baby Gifts

If you know the parents prefer organic things, there are plenty of options for organic baby birthday gifts.

Organic Foods: Buy a selection of organic baby food products from a health food store, and put them in a gift basket to give to the baby.

Organic Clothing: Look for baby clothing that is made from organic cotton or bamboo.

Organic Toys: Look for baby bowls, rattles and toys that are made from cornstarch products.  Cornstarch products are free from chemicals that can be harmful to the baby.

When looking for baby birthday gifts you can ask the parents for ideas, or help them get ready for the toddler years. You can make an ordinary gift special by having it personalized, or you can choose organic products.
