80th Birthday Presents
A person achieving 80 years of age has lots of experience in life and lots of memories. Try to give them 80th birthday presents that are thoughtful or nostalgic, but that do not necessarily draw attention to their age. The following are some ideas for what to get someone for their 80th birthday.
If they are Religious
If they are religious, give them a nicely bound, large print version of the bible. If they practice another faith, give them a large print version of the religious text they read and consult.
Hamper of Treats
If they are the type of person who has everything, give them a hamper of their favorite treats. Find out what their favorite cookies, chocolates, nuts, cheeses and anything else you can think of that they like, and present it to them in a basket. If they like wine, beer or spirits, include a bottle or two in the basket. Before you pick the treats, find out if there are any dietary restrictions or things they can no longer have.
Entertainment
The gift of entertainment goes over well at any age, and makes a nice 80th birthday present. Are there any books of a fiction or non-fiction nature that they would enjoy? Try to find large print versions if possible. Are there any movies, TV series or documentaries on DVD that they would like to watch? Is there a magazine subscription on either a general topic or a specialized topic that would please them?
Mental Stimulation
Keeping mentally stimulated is important at any age, but it is especially important for seniors. If they like games and puzzles, get them an assortment of cross word puzzles, word searches or anagrams in big print format, for their 80th birthday present. If they like doing jigsaw puzzles get them a few in a subject matter that interests them ie: landscapes.
Ordinary things they need
Most seniors by the time they reach their 80’s say that they have everything they need, and don’t need you to get them anything for their 80th birthday present. We all have things that we need at any age, but that we don’t think to get for ourselves. Do they need new luggage, a new bathrobe, a nice wallet or even a pair of new slippers? Find out if there is anything that they need.
Care Package
If they have an interest such as cooking, golfing, fishing or gardening, make them a care package of lots of little things that are of interest to someone who pursues their particular hobby. Put them in a nice package or basket and put a big ribbon around it in their favorite color.
There are lots of things you can get for a friend or relative’s 80th birthday. You can give them things that are of an entertainment nature, a basket of their favorite treats, things that provide mental stimulation, things that they need, but wouldn’t buy for themselves. You can give them a care package that reflects their interests in life.
