70th Birthday Presents

The 70th birthday is a milestone in a person’s life. Give them 70th birthday presents that keep them mentally and physically stimulated.  If they are still living in their own home, help them out with chores inside and outside the home.  Surprise them with the gift of nostalgia, by giving things from the year they were born, or a retrospective of their life.

Do they like games and puzzles, and appreciate the value of keeping their minds active and busy? Try to find things that are geared for senior citizens. There are memory and trivia games relevant to seniors that are based upon recalling things and events from their era. Look for the large print book versions of word search, anagram and cross word puzzles.

The Gift of help around the House

 

People reaching their 70th year have worked hard all of the lives.  If they are still living in their own home, give them the gift of help around the house, as a 70th birthday present.  Pay for a service to mow the lawn, do the gardening, trim the hedges or shovel the driveway in winter. Arrange for a service tot come in once a week to clean the house, or that prepares and delivers nutritionally balanced meals to their home. Show you care by giving them a break from household chores.

You can’t go wrong with the gift of entertainment if you couple it with the honoree’s interests.  Give them a book, in large size print, in fiction or nonfiction that appeals to them.  A magazine subscriptions devoted to one of their interests is a good gift. Find out if any of the music from their youth has been re-released on CD.  Are there any documentaries, series or movies on DVD that they would like to watch?  If they have not updated to DVD players, or iPods, find out if they would like one. Fill the iPod with some of their favorite tunes. 

Physical Fitness

 

Does your soon to be 70 year old have a physical activity that they still like to do, such as curling or yoga? Offer to pay their fees for participating in their favorite activity.  Would they like a gym membership, especially if there are programs geared towards seniors.  Find out what they would enjoy doing, and give them a membership or a set of lessons, as a 70th birthday present. 

Memory Lane Gifts

 

If they already have everything they need, give them the gift of memories for their 70th birthday present.  Memories can take the form of a mounted set of coins from the year they were born, a CD of the songs that were in the top 40 in their youth, or one consisting of the news stories that were topical, on the year they were born. Order a copy of a newspaper or magazine from the year of their birth. Put together a photo retrospective of their life and present it to them in a special photo album.
