Life Begins at 40!

The type of gift you give depends upon whether you are the spouse, friend or child of the 40 year old. If you are the spouse or significant other, add a romantic touch to the 40th birthday present you give your loved one. If you are a friend, then you can probably get away with giving a gag gift.  If you are the son or daughter of the recipient, something you make yourself, or spending time with your parent on an outing, will make them happy.

The Joke or Gag Gift

Does the soon to be 40 year old, have a sense of humor?  There are plenty of gag gifts which allow you to gently make fun of their advancing years. Buy them a book written by their favorite author in the large print version.  Get them some magnifying reading glasses (the kind you buy in a drug store), a jar of anti-aging crème, or a pair of false teeth.  If they like to play cards, purchase the extra large kind.

A ruby is the precious stone that represents the 40th year or anniversary. If they appreciate jewelry, get them a piece with a ruby in it for their 40th birthday present. For women consider earrings, a pin, a ring or a necklace. For men, a tie clip, cufflinks or a chain with a ruby in it, can mark the occasion.

40 Things or Statements

A person turning 40 has achieved a fair amount in life. Ask friends and family to write down things that they like about that person, or things they have accomplished in life.  Put them together until you have either 40 good personality traits, or 40 things they have achieved in life. Present them to the birthday recipient, or read them out loud at a birthday gathering, while wishing them another 40 years of achievements.

What Have They Dreamed of Having?

Is there something they have always dreamed of having, but for one reason or another don’t have yet?  Has she always wanted to have a designer handbag or shoes? Has he always wanted a rider lawn mower or set of golf clubs? Try to get the coveted item for them as a 40th birthday present.

What Do They Dream of Doing?

Is there an activity they have always dreamed of doing?  Have they always wanted to go up in a hot air balloon, learn to hand glide, dine at an exotic restaurant, take music lessons, or swim with dolphins?  The possibilities are limitless. Find out what they are interested in doing, and go from there.
